Leaders from High Real Estate Group and High Construction joined local officials at Penn State Health's construction project kickoff for what will be the largest pediatric specialty outpatient practice in Lancaster County.
The 47,000-square-foot Penn State Health Lancaster Pediatric Center will be located on the site of a former Toys R Us in The Crossings at Conestoga Creek, a Main Street-oriented, mixed-use development project that includes retail, multifamily, and hospitality components in Lancaster.
A smart growth infill project, the pediatric center will be an adaptive reuse of an existing building within the urban growth boundary of Manheim Township at Harrisburg Pike and Route 30. Penn State Health will replace the façade of the building and finish 32,000 square feet of the interior by March 2022. The remainder of the interior will be phase two of the project, but a timeline has yet to be determined. The grounds, parking, and lot configuration will remain the same. The pediatric center will employ about 60.
High Real Estate Group, the developer of The Crossings, purchased the property in May 2019. The Crossings at Conestoga Creek debuted with the opening of the Miller’s Ale House in 2018.
“Projects like Lancaster Pediatric Center encourage more people to live and work in Lancaster,” said Mike Lorelli, senior vice president of commercial asset management at High Associates Ltd.
“High Associates has worked hard to plan and carry out smart and sustainable growth in Lancaster County, and Penn State Health has been a good partner in this effort. This project demonstrates the potential for adaptive reuse of the spaces we already have to make them more attractive and functional for today’s economy, the workforce, and the community’s needs,” said Lorelli.
